  Having been forced to quit the professional game prematurely due to injury, Appleton took up coaching and first came to prominence under the wing of Roy Hodgson. Has had spells at Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn and Oxford United, plus a two-game cameo at the helm of Leicester in 2017 after Claudio Ranieri was sacked.
